Eiffel Tower Paris France Photography
Experience the Eiffel Tower Through the Eyes of an Artist
Paris has long been a muse for photographers around the world, with one landmark in particular standing as its crown jewel: the Eiffel Tower. As a travel photographer, the opportunity to capture this iconic symbol in the City of Light is both a challenge and a thrill. On one journey through France and Europe, I had the privilege of spending a day photographing this marvel, seeking to capture it in ways that reflect both its timeless elegance and my own unique perspective.
The Eiffel Tower looms larger than life in person.
I could feel the excitement building as I approached it. The anticipation of finding the perfect shot was palpable. This view—framed by the fountains and symmetrical paths of the Trocadéro—is one of the most popular, yet it never gets old. The tower seems to draw the eye and lift it skyward, inviting everyone to witness its beauty from below.
The Eiffel Tower has been photographed from every angle, so I set out to capture something a bit different.
Moving away from the classic shots, I wandered around, experimenting with perspectives and compositions. I played around with framing the tower between various structures and nearby trees along the Champs de Mars. My favorite shots came from unexpected angles—the view from the Seine River, where the tower peeks out between classic Parisian buildings, or a low-angle shot that accentuated its towering height.
As the day progressed, the area around the Eiffel Tower began to fill with life.
Street vendors, artists, and tourists brought a vibrant energy to the scene. Capturing the Eiffel Tower isn’t just about the structure itself; it’s about the people and moments happening around it. I took portraits of street performers and candid shots of tourists, blending the grandeur of the tower with the everyday life around it. These moments showed Paris as both a destination and a place where life unfolds naturally.
The Eiffel Tower transforms at night.
As the sun sets, it’s as if the entire city holds its breath, waiting for the tower to light up. The first flicker of the lights brought gasps from the crowd, and then, on the hour, the sparkling began. For five minutes, the Eiffel Tower shimmered, casting an enchanting glow over the Seine River. It’s a magical sight, and capturing it felt like preserving a piece of Paris’s heart.
In 2008 & 2022, the Eiffel Tower was transformed into a beacon of blue light, marking one of the most striking illuminations in its history. The tower was illuminated in a deep blue hue with twelve golden stars arranged in a circle, representing the flag of the European Union (EU). This unique lighting display celebrated France’s presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The blue lights and star emblem turned the Eiffel Tower into a symbolic tribute to European unity, underscoring France’s leadership role within the EU during that period. Every night, the tower’s 20,000 bulbs came to life, casting a striking, almost surreal blue glow over Paris. The circle of stars, representing solidarity among the twelve founding nations of the EU, shimmered high above, reinforcing the message of collaboration and peace among European countries.
Reflections on the Journey
Photographing the Eiffel Tower was an incredible experience, one that felt almost like a rite of passage as a travel photographer. But it also reminded me of the importance of slowing down, observing, and letting a place reveal itself to me. The tower itself is stunning, but it’s the light, the people, and the atmosphere that make it truly unforgettable.
Paris has a unique way of casting a spell on those who visit, and for me, this experience became more than just a series of photographs. It became a memory, etched forever in my mind, of the magic of Paris and the thrill of travel.
As I continue my journey through France and Europe, I look forward to discovering and capturing more places that hold stories, waiting to be told through my lens. The Eiffel Tower may be one of the world’s most photographed landmarks, but on these days, it felt like it belonged solely to me, an image and a memory that I will carry forever.
