Switzerland Travel Photography
Riding the gondola toward the peak of Mount Pilatus resembles my life.
Anticipation isn’t the only thing that rises as we near the summit. The fog becomes dense, resulting in little to no visibility.
I traveled Switzerland eleven years ago. Hence, photographing fog for over a decade. But it wasn’t until recently that these photographs resurfaced from my archives. Discovering these photographs opened my eyes to the vision hidden deep within me.
I imagined my life as a clear path, leading me directly to happiness, fulfillment and purpose.
In the same way, I suspected this gondola would lead me to the glorious sun setting behind the Swiss Alps. I was wrong.
We reach the peak, and nothing. No sunset or view overlooking Central Switzerland, just dense fog.
This reminds me of what it feels like to constantly be striving for the next best thing. Climbing success mountain in hopes that happiness is found at the summit. Wrong again. Happiness is found along the way, regardless of the view. Once I embraced the fog, happiness followed.
Sometimes the fog rolls in, just as I begin to think I'm figuring things out.
My climb is slow, really slow. But, I refuse to take someone else’s path to a place I don’t belong. When I reach this peak, another will reveal itself in the distance. This is how life works. The journey never ends.
Did I anticipate the fog when I reached the peak?
Absolutely not. But, can I finally embrace it after eleven years? You bet.
You’re not alone on your journey.
