Elkhart Lake Wisconsin Vacation
I was a wanderer long before there was a hashtag for it. Today, I wander around Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
I'm fascinated with American resort towns gone quiet. There's more to Elkhart Lake than the hustle and bustle of their busy season. This is what Elkhart Lake looks like when it goes to sleep. The streets are deserted and the businesses are closed.
My travel photography is rarely about gorgeous sunsets and aerial lake views.
It's about capturing the subtleties overlooked by the casual observer. I thrive on capturing the mundane.
This semiannual spa vacation took place at the Aspira Spa at The Osthoff Resort in Elkhart Lake.
Spa days allow my mind to wander to places it may not otherwise go because I'm focused on the present moment. That's where true creativity comes alive.
Artist's Journey Through 'Living In The Fog'
Why do we try so desperately to see beyond the fog?
Everything we need to see is right in front of us, gloriously visible. The details which require our attention are revealed because the distractions fade into the fog. Once we learn to embrace the fog, we find comfort in knowing that we’re exactly where we’re supposed to be.
Fog hinders our ability to look back through the past and ahead to the future. It forces us to face the present moment head on.
I believe that we create our own stories. Life doesn’t always go as planned, and it’s in this lack of certainty that we find our path through the fog. When we’re forced out of our comfort zone and trust in the unknown, our true potential is unleashed.
By embracing the fog myself, I hope to inspire others to do the same.
Fog brings clarity and a new vision to my artwork. Living In The Fog is a series of film photography which scanned negatives are printed as archival pigment prints.
