Mount Calvary Firemen’s Parade
Life doesn't always go as planned.
The cancellation of the annual Mount Calvary Firemen's Parade is proof of that.
2020 doesn't look like we thought it would, but each of us still has something to be grateful for. This season of life has taught me to slow down and appreciate the little things in life. Event cancellations and additional time spent at home forced me to reprioritize my life, which freed up time to go back through my archives of photographs. I document stories and have been doing so for nearly two decades. Unfortunately, many of these stories have gone untold because they never became a priority. Now is the time for change, I'm hear to tell these stories through my lens and the written word. The process of sifting through decades of photographs is profound. I've searched long and hard for my purpose in this life. Finally, I found it hidden in plain sight. I am a storyteller.
I'm doing something different on the blog this season. Each week I will share community events that brought us together in the past and will certainly bring us together in the future. These are the stories I was born to tell. I hope they make you smile.
Share this with family and friends because they probably know someone captured in these photographs.
I’ve captured hundreds of photographs of this event over the last thirteen years. Here are a select few.
The annual Mount Calvary Firemen's Parade is a highlight to our summer.
We reserve our seats in the street hours in advance and sometimes that's not soon enough. Friends and family gather in our yard during this small-town parade. My father insists we never sell our house because it's on the parade route and offers the best shade trees.
As summers continue to fly by faster with each passing year, this parade marks the mid-summer point for us.
From candy to freeze pops, sugar galore!
Bellies are full. The individually wrapped Baker String Cheese happens to be my favorite. Stuffed animals and fidget spinners filling the buckets to the brim.
These are the moments that matter.
Oftentimes, it's the simplest things that create lasting memories.
