There is something so beautifully personal about a backyard wedding. That’s why I was so happy to be invited to photograph Randy and Laura’s Sheboygan backyard affair. I had photographed the bride’s family last year at the same location, so it was wonderful to see everyone again. Seeing how the family had expanded made it particularly special for me.

Laura is President and CEO of a non-profit group dedicated to serving women and children in poverty called NewMoms Inc, and Randy is an attorney. Most importantly, you can tell they really care for each other. It was evident in the every detail of the day. You can see the love and happiness shine on their faces in all of the images.

The day was rich with so many amazing personal touches. Everything centered on friends and family. Both the ceremony and reception were held in Laura’s parents’ stunning backyard. While they had an officiant for the ceremony, Laura’s father, a Reverend, performed the vows portion. The bridal party was Randy’s three children. (During the ceremony, I love the moment when Randy was holding his son’s hand behind him.) Laura’s sister and brother in-law performed during the ceremony, singing and playing the guitar. It was both quaint and personal. At the end of the ceremony, during the receiving line, a deer passed by in the woods! The couple was surrounded by family, friends and nature.

There was such a keen attention to the entire day’s events. The toasts were personal and sweet, perfectly tying together the day. A warm, sunny day gave way to a clear night with just a sliver of a moon. Randy and Laura’s party continued into an evening filled with love and laughter.
